Manly Illustrations

Have you ever noticed that a large amount of illustrations that are used to teach about worshiping Jesus and/or our relationship with him are not very guy-friendly?  By no means am I negating their merit or value, but simply addressing an issue that may be somewhat troubling for guys.  Before I get too deep into this, let me give you an example.

Example - a lot of metaphors that we use describe our relationship to Jesus center around marriage.  The Bible even declares the church to be the bride of Christ.  We tend to think about how we could/should relate to Christ as a husband relates to his wife.  (I'm not even going to jump into the discussion about how single people feel about this.)

These illustrations are where a lot of men start feeling uncomfortable or uneasy.  You see, we understand that Jesus is a man, and thinking about being "married" to a man is a rather unsettling concept for most guys.

So, I've decided that I'm going to try to start using a few more male-sensitive metaphors.  I'm going to start trying to correlate our relationship to Jesus with your relationship with your best friend and how you relate to them.  Many of the same principles apply or carry over, so why not use an analogy that isn't off-putting for some.

Not every example or illustration will speak to everyone, but let's all agree that saying the same thing in many different ways to reach/impact the most amount of people is really what we're aiming at.

So, here's to new metaphors!!!  I'd love to hear your ideas of how you explain different concepts in different ways.
