A Mother's Heart

This is a very tender subject for me, since my mother passed away a little over 3 years ago. However, with Mother's Day coming up this Sunday, it seemed very fitting and appropriate to talk about.

Everyone of us has a mother. Some are still alive with us, and some have passed on. But there isn't a person alive today that doesn't have a mother. Basic genetics and common logic tells us this. However, a "mom" is a different story. There are many "moms" around the world who have never given birth to a child. These women may have never been able to conceive or they may have never found the right man to marry. However, they invest and pour into the lives of children everyday and are truly a "mom" to them.

I believe that Proverbs 31 is describing much more than a wife of noble character. I believe that it gives us a glimpse at what a true "mom" is and does. And one of the last verses really stood out to me today when I read it.

Her children arise and call her blessed;

Moms everywhere have sacrificed, comforted, counseled, defended, encouraged and much more for the "children" in their lives.

This Mother's Day, my challenge to you is to honor your Mom (biological or otherwise), "rise up and call her blessed," and in so doing, worship the Lord!
