I Can Do It

Today was an interesting run for me.

For the first time since I started this graduated running program, I was running more than I was walking (if you subtract the warm up and cool down times.) Today, I alternated between running 1.5 minutes and walking 1 minute.

To begin with, it wasn't that challenging. But as the workout continued, it became increasingly difficult to put one foot in front of the other. By the time I was almost finished (thought I didn't know that at the time), I was questioning my ability to finish the set.

It was right about that time that my phone began playing "In Christ" by Big Daddy Weave. I like to listen to music as I run so that my mind can think about something other than the road and the pain that my legs start to feel. And this particular morning, it was a gift from God to help me continue on in my workout.

"In Christ" is a paraphrase of Philippians 4:13 set to music. It says, "In Christ, I can do all things. In Christ, I mount up on eagle's wings." Those were just the words I needed to hear this morning. When I let that message sink into my heart, my resolved bolstered, and I found new strength to carry on.

I thought at the time I heard the song that I had another minute of walking and one last 1.5 minute run until my cool down.

However, I heard the 10-second countdown and then those sweet words, "Cool down."

In that moment, the Holy Spirit whispered to my heart, "That's all I wanted from you. I just wanted you to trust and rely on Me for the strength. You don't have to do anymore today. But keep that in mind for the future."

When God gives you the opportunity to trust Him for the strength to carry you through, remember Philippians 4:13, and wait for the rest He will provide.
